During your visit, discover 17 exceptional aquariums, including Normandy’s largest aquarium, the Aquarium Abyssal, with its 10.70-metre depth. Marvel at species such as jellyfish, octopus, clownfish and blacktip sharks!
Although you won’t see them in our aquariums, you’ll still come across some of the ocean’s largest and most magnificent creatures: whales, sharks, sperm whales and dolphins on large-format projections! You’ll also plunge into the invisible, the infinitely small people of plankton, and understand why they are so essential to mankind. This playful exhibition reveals our magnificent blue planet, rich in promise, which we must preserve today.

The Abyssal Aquarium and its diversity of species: unique in Europe
The Abyssal Aquarium is undoubtedly the centerpiece of La Cité de la Mer, and the largest aquarium in Normandy. It stands out for its depth of 10.70 metres, a veritable water column unique in Europe. It offers spectacular immersion in a representation of a Tahitian atoll. The “Ocean of the Future” tour offers an exceptional panorama of this 10.70-meter-deep column filled with 350,000 liters of water and inhabited by 1,000 real Polynesian fish.
The 17 exceptional aquariums throughout the tour feature an incredible variety of marine species, from majestic jellyfish to octopus, blacktip sharks and adorable seahorses. The digital content that accompanies you on this journey highlights the richness of the marine ecosystem and invites you to understand its essential role for our planet.

By scanning the QR codes available near each tank, you can access a wealth of information about the inhabitants of the 17 aquariums, allowing you to learn surprising anecdotes about the creatures inhabiting the Ocean. Each stage is both educational and captivating, for young and old alike.
You can also explore different types of deep sea. Thanks to digital devices such as video mapping, you’ll be able to observe fascinating natural phenomena such as plate tectonics, underwater volcanism and the formation of large underwater trenches.
